Hey there! What a treat to see you! Glad you found time for coffee and a chocolate almond, Bavarian cream muffin with yours truly today. Say, you remember a week or two ago, I was on about Neanderthals and that humans likely have some Neanderthal DNA? Well, new evidence appears to confirm it. Many modern-day humans may be carrying around a fragment of Neanderthal DNA on one of their sex chromosomes, a new study finds.
The research adds a piece of corroborating evidence to the theory that Neanderthals and humans interbred sometime after humans migrated out of Africa between 50,000 and 80,000 years ago. The DNA fragment, found on the human X chromosome, is present in 9 percent of humans across the world from Asia to Europe to America — except in Africa, where it does not appear.
"It's in the Middle East, it's in Europe, it's in Eurasia, it's in America, it's in Australia," study researcher Damian Labuda of the University of Montreal told LiveScience. "This one event which led to this on the human X chromosome has to occur very early after modern man left Africa." Some Neanderthals may have had pale skin and red hair similar to that of some modern humans.
Now, I’ve been thinking about that and I’ve come up with a new theory. I may not be the first person to think of this though I haven’t heard it expressed before so who knows, eh? Anyway, glad you asked what my revolutionary theory is all about. It goes like this… People say that Neanderthals died out probably because they couldn’t compete with the larger human populace. But did they all die out or could there be pockets of them remaining on the Earth even today?
Look at how many cultures have ‘creatures’ such as the Sasquatch, the Yeti, etc. Could these be remnants of the Neanderthal culture that have somehow managed to stay hidden for 30-50,000 years? I think that should be considered as a theoretical possibility. There you have it…Bob’s Neanderthal Theory. Stranger things have happened, right?
Ponder it when you have a quiet moment…
See ya!
Bob
