Meet the Fokkens!

Well, g'day to you then. I trust you are in fine fettle. Coffee's just brewed and the virtual treats await in their perpetual deliciousness so dig in, eh.

Say...ever been to Amsterdam? That's a pretty liberal city what with their infamous and legal red light district. Well here's something you may not have heard on the 6:00 o'clock news...

In March, twin sisters Louise and Martine Fokkens, 70, announced their joint retirement after more than 50 years each on the job -- as Amsterdam prostitutes. (In February, the minimum age for prostitutes in the Netherlands was raised to 21, but there is no maximum.)

The twins estimated they had 355,000 client-visits between them, and Martine noted that she still has one devoted regular who she'll have to disappoint.

Louise, though, appeared happier to hang up her mattress for good because of arthritis. The sisters complained about the legalization of brothels in 2000 (with East European women and pimps out-hustling the more genteel Dutch women) and ensuing taxation (which required the women to take on more clients). [according to London's Daily Telegraph]

Hey, I can tell you, walking down Beach Road in Pattaya, in Thailand, there are a few 'service girls' who are quite long in the tooth. Seventy wouldn't surprise me. I still see faces I remember from 25 years ago and you know what? Most of them hold their shape and demeanor pretty well though the laugh lines take greater prominence. 39 + vat, that's what I say!

See ya, eh!
