Guten Morgen, eh! How about a breakfast strudel with your coffee today? Und...denks for dropping by from out of the cybersky. Excuse mein bad German but it does segue into the topic of the day, nicht wahr?
A tired German bank worker fell asleep on his keyboard, turning a minor money
transfer into a 222 million euro (£189 million) transaction, a court heard on
Monday.
The man was supposed to transfer just €62.40 (£53) from a retiree’s bank
account, but “fell asleep for an instant, while pushing on the number 2 key on
the keyboard” racking up the order to a staggering €222,222,222.22, the Hessen labour court heard.
The mistake was corrected shortly after the bank discovered the dozy
error. The case was taken to court after the man’s 48-year-old colleague was fired,
for not noticing the mistake, and verifying the order.
The court ruled that the claimant should be reinstated in his
job.
Ja, so, mein question is...Why does my bank never accidentally drop a few extra 'ooo's' into my account when it records a deposit? Ah well...
See ya, eh!
