Pickups decked with fresh fruit and vegetables supply the households in Bangkok's suburbs

Hey! Hey! Thanks for clicking by today. Glad you could make it. Help yourself to a mugful of coffee and a virtual doughnut or muffin, why don't'cha? Say...do you remember when...? Read the following and see if it brings back a childhood memory.

If you live around a Bangkok neighbourhood and want to buy bunches of fresh coriander and spring onions and some pla tu, it will cost you about 60 baht ($2) from the local "veggie truck" as I call them.

If you decide to buy it at a market far from the middle of town you’ll need at least 200 baht ($6) for transport and a spare two hours.

These veggie trucks ply the suburbs and housing developments throughout Thailand and people wait anxiously for their arrival each and every day. You can see in the bottom right corner of the picture that there is a freezer hanging out the back of the pick-up. This will be full of meat, poultry and fish (well iced down, I might add).  It is one of the fun things about living in the kingdom!

I remember the days when there was a similar truck that came around Beaconsfield, Quebec when I was growing up. That was from Holly Farm and sold fruit and veggies. I actually worked for them for a while and loved riding outside on the 'running board' as we worked our way up and down the streets. When was that, you ask? Hmmm...probably mid 50s (yikes!)

See ya, eh!
